Asakusa Nadokoro Shichifukujin Meguri

Shichifukujin means the Seven lucky Gods, who came from India and China. At the beginning of the year, people like to visit temples and shrines enshrined Shichifukujin (Shichifukujin Meguri). There are many sets of Shichifukujin in various places. In Taito-ku, there are 3 sets of Shichifukujin, and Asakusa Nadokoro Shichifukujin is one of these.

Daikokuten, god of wealth, commerce and trade. - Sensoji Temple

Ebisu, god of fishers or merchants, often depicted carrying a sea bream. - Asakusa Shrine

Jurōjin, god of long life - Ishihama Shrine and Ohtori Shrine

Fukurokuju, god of happiness, wealth and longevity - Imado Shrine and Yasaki Inari Shrine

Bishamonten, god of warriors - Matsuchiyama Shouden

Benzaiten, goddess of knowledge, art and beauty, especially music - Yoshiwara Shrine

Hotei, the fat and happy god of abundance and good health - Hashiba Fudoson






Other Shifukujin in Taito-ku:
Yanaka Shichifukujin are in the area of Yanaka, Nezu and Sendagi between Ueno and Nishinippori.
Shitaya Shichifukujin are in the area of Shitaya between Ueno and Minowa.
