How to enjoy Sumidagawa Fireworks

Sumidagawa Fireworks is held on the last Saturday of July every year. The fireworks started in 1733. Now, almost 1 million people come to see this fireworks.

There are some tips to enjoy the fireworks.

Stations near the river will be very crowded, especially Asakusa Station of Ginza line. It is better to use another station. I put the names of stations in English below.

After 18:00, the area surrounded by red line will be closed. Only people and bicycles can move. There are black arrows around the river. That means people have to move one way on these streets. You cannot stop and have to keep walking on these streets. However on the other streets in the white area, you can sit on the ground to see fireworks. So make sure you have a portable chair or lugs to put on the ground.

Another problem is toilet. There are many toilets along the river. It must be hot and you should keep taking water (or maybe beer). Please refer the toilet map here.

When fireworks are going up in the sky, you shout "Tamayaaaaa", or "Kagiyaaaaa". These are the names of fireworks companies in Edo era and some Japanese still do so :-)

Enjoy 20,000 fireworks at the Sumidagawa Fireworks!
