Ohtori Shrine

One of the most famous markets at the end of a year is Torinoichi. Many shrines held this event, but the most popular shrine is Ohtori Shrine in Taito-ku.

Torinoichi, in other words, Otorisama, starts at midnight and ends midnight. In order to wish a luck for coming year, people buy "KUMADE" (a decorated bamboo rake) from one of many Kumade stalls. Usually, you buy a little bigger Kumade than last year's.
